Leases can vary greatly. A Lease can be granted for a few years to 999 years, meaning that you only own the property for a fixed period of time.
You will have a legal agreement with the Landlord (also known ad the Freeholder) which will stipulate the length of the Lease and any conditions of Leasing.
Most apartments/flats are Leasehold. Some other properties can be Leasehold, especially those in Shared Ownership Schemes.
